The new Zeiss Otus 1.4/28 lens offers users of shorter focal lengths the quality of the ZEISS Otus family for landscapes and architectural photography—or any other images they take with a wide-angle lens. The ZEISS Otus 1.4/28 with ZE (or ZF.2 mount for DSLR cameras from Canon and Nikon) was created for pro photographers and features inner focusing, a dial window and the well-known yellow labeling of the dials for easy legibility.

It took a while, but I finally saw some light at the end of the tunnel. For years, I’ve wanted to upgrade from my AF-S DX Nikkor 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR that I’ve been sharing with my wife. I use the lightweight and portable Nikkor 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G on my trusty Nikon D2X DSLR and she uses it with her Nikon D90 during longer photo trips when bringing minimal gear is essential. For shorter forays, the super sharp Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8 is my go-to lens, especially when shooting landscapes.

Rokinon unveiled two new high-speed lenses today: the 21mm F1.4 wide angle and 50mm F1.2 portrait lens. Designed for mirrorless compact system cameras, these lenses are available in mounts for Sony E Micro 4/3, Fuji X and Canon M cameras in black or silver models.

Canon kicked off its once-every-five-years Canon Expo 2015 show in New York City yesterday where the Tokyo-based company pulled back the curtain on some potentially ground-breaking imaging technology. Shutterbug was on hand for the event, which is part science lab and part marketing showcase, along with thousands of buyers, dealers, and distributors of Canon products eager to see what the company has up its sleeve.

Tamron has annouced two intriguing new prime lenses: the Tamron SP 35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD and a 45mm f/1.8 Di VC USD. Both lenses offer close focus (7.9 and 11.4 in. respectively) and both are compatible with full-frame and APS-C sensor DSLR cameras.

My wide-angle lens was perfect when the late-evening shadows crept across the mountains of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The sweeping landscape, wide open and treeless, was suited to the wide field of view. Until, that is, the weather turned, and with it, my perspective on that wild place. I woke one morning to rain pattering intermittently on the nylon of my tent. Between showers, I emerged to find the mountains obscured by scudding clouds.
