This year marks the 40th anniversary of Tamron’s SP (Superior Performance) lens series. They elected to commemorate this special occasion by introducing what they have labeled “the ultimate Tamron lens” in the form of the new SP Tamron 35mm F/1.4 Di USD (Model F045) prime lens in Canon EF and Nikon F mounts.

Tamron has a long history of producing versatile, do-everything lenses and the Tamron 35-150mm F/2.8-4 Di VC OSD (Model A043) continues with that heritage. I received the Canon EF-mount version of the lens for testing, but a Nikon F-mount version is also available at the same price. While designed for Canon’s full-frame EF-mount cameras, the Tamron 35-150mm lens can also be used with their APS-C models where it produces a field-of-view equivalent to 56-240mm.

Sony just launched its latest prime lens for its mirrorless cameras: the new Sony FE 35mm F1.8 lens. Canon has introduced its first telephoto zoom lens for its EOS R and EOS RP full-frame mirrorless cameras and it's a doozy: a RF 24-240mm F4-6.3 IS USM lens, which is equivalent to 10x of optical zoom.

Canon has not one but two elite 85mm portrait lenses: Canon EF 85mm f1.2L II and Canon RF 85mm f1.2L lens. The main difference between these two portrait masters is that the EF lens is designed for Canon's DSLRs while the R lens is made for its new full frame mirrorless camera line.

Tamron unveiled the new the SP 35mm F/1.4 Di USD (Model F045) for full-frame DSLR cameras this morning. The new fixed focal length "prime lens," which was announced as under development in February, is designed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Tamron's SP Series lenses.
