The new PowerShot G5 X is based on the same sensor system as the G7 X. It uses a 1-inch sensor (BSI technology) with 20MP and a professional 3:2 aspect ratio. Compared to the G7 X, the G5 X has a lot of new and additional features, including a high-resolution electronic viewfinder with 2.36 million RGB dots that is based on OLED technology. By default, the viewfinder offers a frame rate of 30 frames per second, being the most efficient power-saving mode.

Canon tooks the wraps off two new compact PowerShot G-series cameras this morning. Both feature 20.2-megapixel, 1-inch CMOS image sensors but sit in different places in the G-series line. The Canon PowerShot G5 X is a step above the current G7 X, which we reviewed earlier this year. Meanwhile, the Canon PowerShot G9 X is the new entry-level model in the line.

Canon just took the wraps off of a very cool new camera: the PowerShot G3 X, which boasts a 25x optical lens with image stabilization and a one-inch, 20.2-megapixel CMOS sensor. For those keeping score at home that means this relatively compact camera has a zoom lens equivalent to 24-600mm with an aperture range of f/2.8-f/5.6.

Note From The Editor
Our criteria for doing a test on an integral lens camera is whether or not we think it would be a camera that a seasoned photographer could appreciate and use as a second body to back up a D-SLR, or even as the sole camera on a trip where a D-SLR would be cumbersome or burdensome. The camera in question should have many of—but not all—the...

With its 12.1-megapixel sensor, Raw and Raw+JPEG Capture modes, 6x (35-210mm equivalent f/2.8-4.8) zoom lens with Optical Image Stabilizer, real image optical zoom finder, 3" LCD, and dedicated hot shoe, the top-of-the-line Canon PowerShot G9 definitely has the street creds of a high-performance, pro-caliber compact, which is why we're reviewing it here in Shutterbug.

The Canon PowerShot SX200 IS certainly delivers exceptional image quality when shot at reasonable ISO speeds.

The new Casio Exilim EX-HG20G (list price, about $350) is a pocket size camera that is a traveling companion for those who like to see where they’ve been. Some examples: during my test with the camera we turned down a dirt road and “got lost” in the back areas of Arroyo Hondo, NM. We saw various side roads going this way and that, roads that weren’t on any map we had in the car. We shot a few pictures with the H20G and later plugged the images into Aperture 3.1 in our MacBook Pro, used the Places feature and voila, we saw exactly where we had been and where those back roads led.

The EXILIM Pro EX-F1 is the second Casio digital camera I've ever tested. I wrote about that first one, the QV-10, for a computer magazine back in 1995 and boy, things have really changed. The Pro EX-F1 marks a departure for the company from its line of stylish point-and-shoot digicams. Instead, it's a capable electronic viewfinder (EVF) digicam that delivers...

If you want a quality compact camera for street photography but don't want to spend an arm and a leg, the Pentax MX-1 from six years ago is still a great buy, according to Mattias Burling, who reviews older cameras on his popular YouTube channel. Selling for only a few hundred dollars online (and even less if you hunt around the used market), the Pentax MX-1 is a legend of a camera, Burling contends.

We were at Sony’s press conference yesterday to unveil the blazing fast RX100 V compact camera and afterwards we got a chance to try out with this speedy little bugger. The biggest headline about the Sony RX100 V is that can shoot at 24 frames per second, which is the world’s fastest continuous shooting speed for a compact camera and faster than even the most expensive professional digital SLRs on the market.

We’ve touted the insane 83x (24mm to 2000mm in 35mm equivalent) zoom of the Nikon Coolpix P900 in both our review of this superzoom camera and in a previous video that caputed the moon’s rotation from a field here on Earth. Now here’s further proof that the P900 is a super-duper zoomer.
