Due to its wonderfully quirky nature, photographers love experimenting with Lomo film-based toy cameras. Unlike the images produced by its more high tech digital and film cousins, a quirky Lomo produces shots with a certain style and character.

It’s real and it’s coming. That’s the message we got from a new video showing the much-anticipated Zeiss ZX1 full frame compact camera being tested by a professional photographer during a street shoot.

Phew, what a busy month it’s been for new photo gear! While the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas has not, traditionally, been a major event to debut high-end photography equipment, CES 2016 was definitely an exception with dozens of interesting imaging releases. (And hopefully this is a trend that continues at future CES events, which, in recent years have been rather ho-hum for photography gear.)

Ever since Nikon recently announced an “extraordinary” financial loss and cancelled the long-awaited DL Series of premium compact cameras there have been concerns about the health and future direction of the legendary company. In an attempt to ease concerns, Nikon executives have revealed the company’s strategy for the future in an interview just published by several Japanese news outlets.

Nikon recently announced the Coolpix B600, a superzoom with a 24-1440mm equivalent range, highly effective image stabilization, 16-megapixel CMOS sensor and a lens that’s sharper than kittens’ teeth. Priced at just $299, this easy-to-use point-and-shoot spent nearly two months in our hands, and here is what we learned.

Superzoom cameras, like Nikon’s Coolpix P1000 ($999.99) are popular because, let’s face it, people who buy entry level DSLR’s rarely, if ever, take the kit lenses off their cameras. I looked for statistics on this and didn’t find any empirical data but friendly retailers in the industry told me this assumption is true.

I’ve often wished I had a camera that could go from 24mm to 2000mm at the touch of a button and without being weighed down by a ton of glass. Okay, maybe not all the way to 2000mm and perhaps not in a power zoom, but you get my point. The Nikon Coolpix P900 superzoom (super-duper-zoom?) camera gives you that reach in a fairly compact body, relative to a lens with such a broad range of focal lengths.

Nikon recently introduced the Coolpix P950, a bridge-style super-telephoto zoom camera that features an 83X, 24-2000mm equivalent zoom lens and a boatload of creative options, including P, A, S and M Modes, Raw file options and UHD 4K30 video. We put a production sample through the gauntlet and here is what we found.

Nikon introduced an amazing superzoom camera tonight: the Coolpix P900, all-in-one compact that features a head-turning 83x built-in zoom lens. For those keeping score at home, that translates into an astronomical 24-2000mm (in 35mm equivalent) zoom lens in a camera not much bigger or heavier than a small, entry-level DSLR.

Nikon just announced a brand new palm-sized, premium camera line with some classic Nikkor lens features. Called the DL series, the cameras include the DL24-85, DL18-50 and DL24-500 models, which combine Nikkor optics with large 20.8-megapixel (CX-format) 1-inch BSI CMOS sensors.

In something of a surprise, Nikon announced at the CES 2016 show today in Las Vegas that it’s entering the competitive action camera market with several forthcoming products. The first in Nikon’s new action camera lineup will be the oddly named Nikon KeyMission 360, a rugged camera capable of “recording true 360-degree video in 4K UHD allowing users to share new perspectives and explore imagery like never before,” Nikon said in a press statement.

Call it a super-duper-zoom camera. Nikon raised the bar again tonight on how much optical reach an all-in-one camera can have by unveiling the Coolpix P1000, which has a built-in 125x optical zoom lens that’s equivalent to a 24-3000mm zoom.
