Young Dutch Photographer Uses Compositing Techniques to Create Magical Self-Portraits
Annegien Shilling is a talented artist/photographer from the Netherlands who creates magical self-portraits using nothing more than a good imagination, her own photos, and a few apps on an iPod Touch to create the composites. Her creative results have attracted international acclaim for their simplicity and charm.
Shilling began posting her work on Instagram (where she goes by the handle “Fetching_tigerss”) when she was 13, and she now has over 780,000 followers. Her photographs capture her in everyday settings, and are transformed into surreal scenes using simple image-manipulation skills.
A selection of Shilling’s work was recently featured in her own exhibition at Cuypers Hall in Amsterdam’s Central Train Station.
“I think it’s really cool that my pictures are being exhibited,” she said, adding that her followers typically only see her work on a computer screen. “Now everyone can see the photos in large format, which gives them a whole new dimension.”
