One of the most common questions we get from beginner photographers is: What's the best lens to get started in portrait photography? Of course, there's no right answer to this question. When Sigma decided to extend its esteemed Contemporary line of broad-spectrum lenses to include a full-frame 100-400mm long-range telephoto zoom, they handed their optical engineers a tough assignment: come up with a really long 4x zoom that delivers outstanding imaging performance and enhanced shooting flexibility in a compact, well-balanced, lightweight package optimized for handheld shooting. In other words, they wanted a lens that would expand the long tele zoom market by appealing to travelers, nature, wildlife, and street photographers, hikers, sports shooters and others daunted by the prospect of toting and hefting a ponderous telephoto zoom lens. 

Tamron this morning announced the launch of the new Tamron 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD (Model B070), a zoom lens for Sony E-mount APS-C mirrorless cameras. The new Tamron 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A lens is slated to go on sale on January 14, 2021 for $799. (Due to the current global health crisis, the release date or product supply schedule could change, Tamron noted.)
