All interchangeable lens cameras share common feature sets, with some offering higher sensitivity (ISO range), faster shutter speeds, or enhanced video capabilities. Aimed squarely at photo enthusiasts and advanced photographers who can appreciate and make use of its many creative imaging options, the Panasonic Lumix DC-G9 ($1,697, body only) stands out as a fast performer, with an astonishing framing rate and very fast autofocus acquisition time, plus many features and functions that will appeal to knowledgeable photographers who want to make use of cutting-edge processing and capture capabilities.

If you’re considering buying a high-resolution full-frame camera, you’ve likely considered both the Nikon D850 DSLR or the Sony A7R III mirrorless camera.

Aimed at advanced and enthusiast photographers, the Fujifilm X-H1 ($1899, body only) has a 24MP APS-C  sensor with 5-axis (5.5EV) image stabilization. We take a closer look at this mirrorless camera in this review.

Three of the most talked about full-frame, interchangeable lens cameras of the past year, undoubtedly, have to be the Sony A7R III and A7 III mirrorless cameras, and the Nikon D850 DSLR. While we’ve reviewed all three models at Shutterbug, we haven’t done a direct head-to-head comparison of them.

I was heartened to see the new Fujifilm X-E3 being promoted by the company as being “built from the essence of minimalism.” In art and design, minimalism is paring down to bare essentials, a kind of “less is more and more is less” approach. In a modern digital camera it should mean a design and layout that might well appeal to those who, in ye olde film days, chose a manual interchangeable lens rangefinder over a multifunctional SLR.

The Panasonic Lumix GH5S ($2499, body only) is a mirrorless camera with a 10.2MP high-sensitivity MOS Micro Four Thirds sensor that’s optimized for shooting in low light. While capable of recording still images and video, the Panasonic GH5S is clearly a video-centric mirrorless camera with a very wide range of video format recording capabilities and features.

So much for “basic,” Sony seems to be saying, the A7 III is a premium model worthy of its pricier full-frame stablemates: the high-resolution A7R III and the speedy A9 mirrorless cameras.

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III is the latest iteration of a long and storied lineage that began in the early 1970s with the introduction of the then-revolutionary OM-1 35mm SLR film camera. As is with the new digital Mark III, the analogue OM-1 was a lightweight and portable camera that posed a viable alternative to the comparatively bulky SLRs of the day.

Shutterbug, a member of the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA), once again joined forces with 30 other member magazines from around the world to choose the winners of the annual TIPA Awards for the best photo/imaging products in 40 different categories. The award process began in early 2017 with an initial selection of a wide range of products conducted by TIPA’s Technical Committee, on which Shutterbug’s Editor-at-Large George Schaub serves.

Another year has come and gone, which means it’s time for Shutterbug to once again pick our favorite cameras and lenses of the past 12 months. With so much great photo gear to choose from in 2017, it was a difficult task. The below list though is a good summation of the cameras and lenses Shutterbug’s editors and writers most enjoyed shooting with last year.

There are a variety of new things under the Sony A7R III’s hood, including the ability to shoot 10 frames per second (fps) continuous bursts of images at full resolution, 4K video recording across the width of its full-frame sensor, longer battery life, and a host of other features.

So that there’s no confusion, this story is about a camera that was introduced in the fall of 2012. Like many of the cameras that I use, it’s not the latest or greatest—but it’s miles above the “good enough” threshold. And it’s very affordable in today’s secondhand marketplace. The Sony NEX 6 is an outstanding performer and it can be purchased at a true bargain price. Sound interesting?

Sony launched the 42.4MP A7R III yesterday and Shutterbug was amongst a group of select media that got a chance to shoot with this new, full frame mirrorless camera at a studio shoot with dancers and performers, and then later at a nightclub with musicians.
