Sigma Unveils 5 Global Vision Lenses Ranging from a Fast 28mm Prime to a Powerful 60-600mm Telephoto

The Photokina news keeps coming, as Sigma just introduced five new Global Vision lenses for shooting everything from landscapes and street photography to portraits and sports. The new glass includes a 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art, 40mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art, 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary, 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports, and the 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports.

Sigma says the new 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art lens will be available in Sigma, Nikon, Canon, and Sony E mounts and is highly corrected for distortion and other aberrations. Designed for use in harsh environments, the lens features a dust-proof/splash-proof design and features special oil- and water–resistant coatings on the front element. The new wide-angle lens also promises high-speed autofocus and great low-light performance.

The new Sigma 40mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art is another fast lens, and utilizes three low dispersion elements and three special low dispersion elements to correct chromatic aberration, with less than 1% distortion and virtually no sagittal coma flare, according to Sigma. It will also be available in mounts for Sigma, Nikon, Canon, and Sony E cameras.

Sigma’s new 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary is a lightweight high-speed lens featuring a compact design for micro-four-thirds and Sony E mount cameras. With great low-light performance, the lens promises beautiful bokeh and smooth-and-silent autofocus for videography.

The new Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports, in Sigma, Canon, and Nikon mounts, is a fast telephoto zoom designed to meet the needs of serious sports/action photographers. It boasts a light yet robust magnesium body, special coatings on the front element, and is sealed against water and dust. With an optical construction utilizing 10 low-dispersion elements, this lens is designed for superb resolution from corner to corner.

The powerhouse of Sigma’s new Global Vision lens introductions is the 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports. This bad boy is the world’s first 10X optical zoom telephoto lens with a long end of 600mm. It incorporates 25 elements in 19 groups for what Sigma says is “consistent image quality throughout the entire zoom range.” With a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:3.3, this lens is also useful for telephoto macro photography.

The Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports will be available late next month in Sigma, Canon, and Nikon mounts for $1,999. Pricing and availability of the other four new Global Vision lenses is yet to be announced. For more information about everything Sigma has to offer, visit their website.
