“Worth The Wait…”
This picture was taken near Tioga Pass, Yosemite, in early October.
I was on a photo op trip with some buddies to capture the beautiful California
fall foliage in the High Sierras. Peak colors were a couple of weeks behind
schedule last year in much of the Sierras. Most of our trip was spent at lower
elevations where the deciduous aspen thrive. We woke up each morning before
sunrise to set up our tripods and gear to witness and photograph the alpen glow
on the eastern ridge. We did take an evening drive up to the pass (9943 ft)
in an attempt to capture a decent sunset. I was eager to put to use my new Canon
17-55mm IS lens with ND graduated filter. The air was cold (in fact, it began
to snow lightly moments after this shot was captured) and my fingers were numb,
but I think this picture made the trip. My Canon EOS 30D was tripod mounted
to allow the 45 seconds required to suck in enough light.
