How Much Photoshop Is Too Much Photoshop? Explore the Skillful Work of Artist Max Asabin

We don’t subscribe to the notion of some so-called purists that “Photoshop” is a dirty word. After all, some of the best works of iconic film photographers owe their impact to a mastery of the darkroom. The before and after images you see here from young Russian digital artist Max Asabin show that he definitely pushes the envelope when it comes to the digital darkroom.

Asabin begins by layering several images atop one another. He then merges them into one imaginative creation by adding highlights and shadows, playing with color balance, and carefully trimming the edges of the foreground photos.

Working strictly on a freelance basis, Asabin says he considers digital art his career. While completely self-taught, and only having worked with Photoshop for a few years, Asabin’s work is indeed impressive.
