Here’s Why Auto ISO Is an Important Feature in Your Camera and How to Use It (VIDEO)

Adjusting the ISO depending on the level of light in scene is one of the first things you may have learned when using your digital camera. But what if there was a way for the camera to adjust the ISO on its own?

Of course, there is. Most photographers out there have likely tried the Auto ISO feature on their cameras previously, but they may not know helpful it can really be. In the below video from Steve Perry of Backcountry Gallery, he tells you everything you need to know about Auto ISO.

While Steve’s tips on using Auto ISO pertain to Nikon cameras, his advice can apply to most camera brands.

“Auto ISO is a frequent source of confusion, but it doesn't have to be that way,” Perry says. “In this comprehensive video, we'll cover how Auto ISO works in Nikon cameras (although it's likely very similar for all brands). We'll start with what it does, why and when you should use it, how to set it up, and how it interacts with your various exposure modes.”

Check out the tutorial below and then go visit Perry’s YouTube channel for more great photography advice.
