Here’s What You Can Do with the Phase One XF IQ4 150MP Medium Format Camera (VIDEO)

If you’re a photographer who has joined the never-ending megapixel race, and have enough cash to back up your obsession, the video below is for you. But even if you don’t have an extra $52K in your pocket, it’s interesting to see what a 150MP camera can do.

Michael Sasser is pro boudoir photographer based in LA, and he takes a quick look at the medium format Phase One XF IQ4. Like the earlier 100MP Phase One XF IQ3 we reviewed, the new model offers far more than just huge resolution—like a versatile modular design, the choice of great optics, and much more.

Sasser’s seven-minute tour of the Phase One XF IQ4 includes a rather silly comparison with an $85 (that’s $85 without a zero) Polaroid camera. But far more enlightening is his demonstration of what he accomplished with the XF IQ4 while photographing a beautiful model on the beach.

According to Sasser, Phase One’s new megapixel monster offers the “highest quality out there” for commercial and landscape photographers, and others who demand unsurpassed results. He discusses the benefits of large sensor size, bigger pixels, low noise characteristics, and really clean skin tones—even when viewing an image at 300%.

We’re not encouraging you to take out a second mortgage on your home, but Sasser’s images are well worth seeing. And there’s a variety of impressive boudoir photography on his YouTube channel. Be sure to check out our hands-on report of the Phase One XF IQ4 from Photokina, and our review of the older 100MP Phase One XF IQ3.
