Have Smartphones Killed Photography? This Famous Director Thinks So (VIDEO)
Here’s a provocative short video to get you thinking today. In the 1.5-minute BBC clip below, renowned German film director and photographer Wim Wenders disparages “phone photography” and “selfies,” saying they may have killed photography as we know it.
Wenders, who directed such cult classics as "Wings of Desire" and "Buena Vista Social Club," was speaking to the BBC at an exhibition of his Polaroid photography. Towards the end of the video, Wenders asks that a new term for this type of manipulated, mobile imaging be created because it’s “not photography.”
What do think of what he says? Do you agree that there should be a new word for photography in the mobile age? And if so, what would you call it?
