Celebrate National Puppy Day with This Nat Geo Video of a Passionate Pet Photographer

Today is National Puppy Day, an annual celebration founded in 2006 by Colleen Paige, who says, “Puppies are the most trusting and joyous creatures on the planet.” To help celebrate the occasion, we thought we’d bring you the following short film, with a day in the life of pet photographer extraordinaire Elias Weiss Freidman.

Better known as “The Dogist,” Freidman has millions of followers on his Instagram page, and you’ll see why in this six-minute documentary from the National Geographic Short Film Showcase. While watching Friedman do what he loves best, you’ll see some fine dog portraits that wouldn’t be possible without the passion The Dogist brings to his craft.

Nat Geo’s Short Film Showcase spotlights captivating works from notable filmmakers around the world, like this charming video from New York-based filmmaker E. J. McLeavy-Fisher. When he’s not working on content for commercial clients, or shooting documentaries, McLeavy-Fisher says he spends time with his wife, daughter, and dog Bobby.

National Puppy Day is intended to celebrate the unconditional love these little pets bring to our lives, and to educate the public about orphaned pets and the horrors of puppy mills. We encourage you to visit their website to get involved, as well as to learn more about pet adoption and see some extraordinary puppy photos.

After watching the heartwarming video below, you can read more about the National Geographic Short Film Showcase on their website, and see more of Friedman’s work on his Instagram page.
