The new Night Sight mode for the Google Pixel 3 smartphone’s camera has been getting a lot of good press lately so photographer Pierre T. Lambert thought he would put it to the ultimate challenge. Instead of comparing it against other smartphone cameras, he pitted the Pixel 3’s Night Sight mode against the low light shooting skills of his Sony A7R III mirrorless camera.

More and more photographers are using vintage glass on modern digital cameras and saving a lot of money in the process. That’s because there are inexpensive adapters available that permit you to mount 35mm lenses on just about any mirrorless camera you own.

Photographers are known for chasing the latest and greatest gear, despite the adage that, “It’s the photographer—not the camera—that creates the image.” I’ll admit to owning a couple “state-of-the art” digital cameras myself. But my photo cabinet also includes a few “obsolete” models dating back to 2009.

Arguably, the biggest camera news at this year’s photokina show in Cologne, Germany was the announcement of the new Fujifilm GFX, a medium format mirrorless camera, which was unveiled to much fanfare on Monday. Shutterbug was one of a handful of media outlets to get our hands on a prototype of the 51.4-megapixel GFX and try it out for about half an hour in a conference room at the show.

Fujifilm was showing off its new toys at photokina today and we got some hands-on time with these latest X-series cameras and lenses. Initially announced on September 10th, the Fujifilm X100T and XT-1 Graphite Silver cameras, and Fujinon XF50-140mm F2.8 R LM OIS WR and XF56mm F1.2 R APD lenses continue to build on Fuji’s compact and retro-style (Fuji would say “classic" style) X-Series line.

The recent CES show in Las Vegas saw the debut of the Panasonic GH5S, a mirrorless camera designed specifically to shoot in low light conditions. We got to see the GH5S in action at the show and shot the below video featuring Panasonic Lumix USA product manager Sean Robinson and the much buzzed about camera.

The Hasselblad 907X 50C camera is so different from the sorts of cameras most of us shoot with, I feel like I almost need a new vocabulary to describe it. If a visitor from Area 51 handed me the device used on their planet to take pictures, I’d expect it to strongly resemble this ‘blad. It is at once familiar and yet radically different. Using it made me feel like I was at Disney’s World of Tomorrow exhibit, sampling the future and finding it surprisingly intuitive.

Hands on with a Hasselblad X1D II 50C medium format mirrorless camera, Hasselblad 24mm f/4.8 HCD wideangle lens and the enigmatic Hasselblad XH Converter 0,8. Does this change our attitude toward converter lenses? Continue reading to find out.

Canon joined the full frame mirrorless camera market by introducing the new 30.3MP Canon EOS R last night and today we had our first chance to take it for a ride. Shutterbug is one of a select group of U.S. media to attend a special Canon R launch event in Hawaii and we spent the afternoon shooting with a full production Canon R and the RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM “kit” lens at set-ups with models in Maui.

It’s looking more and more like full frame mirrorless cameras are not simply the wave of the future, they are the world of today.
