Canon Debuts Premium PowerShot G7 X with 1-Inch, 20MP Sensor and Flip-Up LCD

Canon unveiled a premium portable camera at photokina this morning: the 20MP PowerShot G7 X, which uses a large (for a compact model) 1-inch CMOS image sensor and features a multi-angle (up to 180°), flip-up, 3-inch touch capacitive, rear LCD panel with 1,040K dots of resolution.

The big sensor in the G7 X combined with Canon’s Digic 6 image processor are designed to capture cleaner images and HD videos in low light. The G7 X can shoot at an ISO range of 125 to 12,800. The Canon G7 X has a 4.2x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 24-100mm), with an aperture range of f/1.8 to f/2.8, a built-in ND filter, and built-in WiFi.

The Canon G7 X can capture full 1080/60p HD video. For still shooters, it offers both manual exposure control and a choice of RAW, JPEG or RAW+JPEG recording formats.

The Canon G7 X won’t be cheap, however. It will retail for $699 when it ships in October 2014.
