Why Every Photographer Needs a Telephoto Lens, According to Peter McKinnon

Yesterday, we posted our new video featuring Shutterbug photographer Jordan Matter who explained three reasons why he thinks you need to get a telephoto zoom lens now. And then, lo and behold, popular photography vlogger Peter McKinnon just posted his own video on why he thinks every photographer needs a telephoto lens.

Coincidence? Perhaps, or maybe it’s a case of imitation being the sincerest form of flattery. At any rate, now that you’ve taken a look at Jordan’s Telephoto Zoom lens video, check out McKinnon’s Telephoto lens video below, which takes a slightly different approach.

McKinnon shot the clip at Canada’s Moraine Lake, which he calls “the best spot on the planet,” and his video is more of a meandering visual essay about trying out the new Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 III lens at Banff National Park, and why he thinks it’s a great telephoto.

Check out the clip and let us know which video you think is better in the comments: Jordan’s or Peter’s? You can subscribe to Peter McKinnon’s YouTube channel here, and to Shutterbug’s YouTube channel here.
