Lightroom vs Photoshop: Which Program Is Better for Editing Your Images? (VIDEO)

There are some photographers who like Lightroom and some who like Photoshop and there are even some who like both. But which of Adobe’s photography programs is better for editing images?

It’s become an age-old question – or at least as old as 2007 when Adobe introduced Lightroom – and it’s one that pro photographer Jessica Kobiessi decides to tackle in the below video, titled “Lightroom vs Photoshop – Which Is Better?” In the clip, Kobiessi edits the same two photos in both programs to show the pluses and minuses of Adobe’s “big two” photo editors.

“One of the reasons why I’m doing this is because I’m seeing an influx of photographers who rely on Lightroom to do all of their editing,” Kobeissi says. “And while I do think Lightroom is a great program for batch processing, for certain genres of photography, and definitely for beginners, I think it can be very limiting. It’s a lot easier to use than Photoshop and a lot of people just stick with that and they never try using Photoshop. Let’s be honest: most people are content with their edits in Lightroom because they have nothing else to compare it to. The problem is they haven’t been shown what else is possible.”

In the below video, Kobeissi shows what else is possible in both Photoshop and Lightroom as she edits images in both. In particular, she shows how Photoshop is the superior program for retouching portraits, which is something that Lightroom struggles with. Or, as she puts it, Lightroom is “a hot mess” when it comes to retouching skin.

She doesn't even know how to use Lightroom, but concludes that Photoshop is better? It appears she didn't even do a pre-video run-through to familiarize herself with Lightroom. Not a valid comparison. I'd rather see expert vs. expert to demonstrate the best of what each app can do.
