Edward S. Pinckard's picture

For several months, while moving, I passed a cypress swamp outside of Smithville, Georgia. I noticed that there was a Great Egret that was feeding along the side of the road. Every time I stopped to take a photo of it, it flew back into the swamp, too far away to get a good picture. However, one day when I stopped to try to get a picture, it did not even seem to notice that I was there. Suddenly it flew over and stood in the water about eight feet in front of me, cocked its head as if to say, “What are you doing?” I was able to photo that expression. It then flew over, landed about three feet from me. It stayed there for a few minutes and then flew over and started feeding. From that day on, when I stopped to take its picture, it went on about its business as if I were not there.
Used Nikon D80, Photo made on December 3, 2009, Not sure on lens but think it may have been a AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR.
