Sandhill cranes leaving the overnight resting area at Jasper-Pulaski Wildlife Management Area, Medaryville, IN, to go out to neighboring fields of corn and soy beans to feed. This is a resting area on their north/south flyway twice each year. There are often 15,000 to 25,000 birds resting their at the peak. They socialize for about an hour around sunrise and then they all suddenly depart to go to the fields. Then about an hour before sunrise they return.
