Earthquakes Cause Delay in Release of New Nikon Compact Digital Cameras

Nikon has announced a delay in the release of several recently introduced compact digital cameras as a result of the series of earthquakes in Kumamoto Prefecture of Japan that began on April 14, 2016. The product delay includes three premium camera models in the new DL series, as well as four Coolpix models and a new action camera.

The DL line, originally scheduled for a June release, includes include the DL24-85, DL18-50 and DL24-500 models, which combine Nikkor optics with large 20.8-megapixel (CX-format) 1-inch BSI CMOS sensors. You can read our introductory coverage of these cameras here.

The new release date for the hotly anticipated Nikon DL cameras has yet to be determined.

The Nikon Coolpix A300 and B300 will now be available in May, while the Coolpix A900 and B770 models are now scheduled for release in October, as is the Nikon KeyMission 360 action camera. Nikon says shipments of the aforementioned models were delayed, in part, because component suppliers were affected by the earthquakes and are unable to meet delivery schedules.
