When Peak Design introduced camera straps with their proprietary Anchor quick-connector system in 2014, they quietly revolutionized the way the world had been attaching straps to cameras. Here’s a guide to their current lineup nearly 10 years on.

Peak Design, maker of everyone's favorite camera strap system, Everyday camera bags/backpacks, and the Travel Tripod that redefined the category, has teamed up with Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Jimmy Chin to create a trio of expedition-quality tripods they claim "… sets a new standard in professional-grade portability, strength and thoughtfully designed functionality for users across the creative spectrum."

Today I received a Happy Anniversary wish from Peak Design. No, this has nothing to do with wedding bells—apparently it’s the anniversary of one of my purchases of meticulously engineered Peak Design photo products. Naturally, they expressed their hope that I’m “…still loving it…” Then they boldly stated, “But if that's not the case, let's do something about it.” Now, THAT got my attention!

Peak Design just announced the presale Kickstarter launch of the Micro Clutch, a minimalist hand strap specially designed for today’s mirrorless cameras. Shutterbug had the chance to use a sample for a few weeks and it looks like PD has hit Pay Dirt once again.

In a world that can be frustrating when the undeserving are unduly rewarded, it’s refreshing to see a good company with good intentions and great products succeed. Peak Design makes truly outstanding photo bags, messengers and backpacks; they’re also one of the good guys.

Peak Design just launched a Kickstarter campaign for a travel tripod. Packed with innovative features, this extremely compact marvel is available in aluminum alloy or carbon fiber, supports a payload of up to 20 pounds and is not much bigger than a Philly cheese steak sandwich—or the footlong hot dog shown above—when folded up (3.1 x 15.5 inches). We had a chance to put an early sample through the paces; here’s our hands-on report.

After months-long speculation and rumor, Ricoh Imaging announced the PENTAX 17 to the thunderous applause of legions of film shooters and dedicated Pentaxians. Shutterbug was fortunate to receive the loan of an early sample for evaluation. Here is our report.

Amidst heavy speculation, Ricoh unveiled the Pentax 17, the first new 35mm film camera from a major manufacturer in several years. Here's the rundown on the features and a couple sample images.

Introduced in 2012, the Pentax K-01 was met with widely discordant yelps of either disbelief, unconditional infatuation, technical condemnation, or irresolute "meh," — depending on the reviewer — and was ultimately booed off the stage. Too bad. It's awesome. And we think it just might be the most underrated camera ever.

Pentax K-x

It could be that the good people at Pentax have gone batty. They put way too much stuff in the new Pentax K-x camera. It’s priced slightly above the most expensive compact cameras (in the sub-$600 range with a Pentax 18-55mm zoom lens) and is offered in three colors (red, white and blue) plus basic black.

Leica just announced the Leica M11 Monochrom, the B&W-only version of their M11 flagship digital rangefinder camera, and Shutterbug had the opportunity to test run a production sample early on in the release cycle. Our conclusions are not as simple as black and white.
