These Underwater Images of Crocodiles by Chris Knight Are Literally “Jaw Dropping”
Chris Knight is a UK-based nature photographer whose underwater images of crocodiles are jaw dropping—in the truest sense of the term. Knight made these photos in shallow water during a recent trip to Mexico’s Caribbean coast near the village of Xcalak.
Knight developed an interest in photography when he took an Art and Design course at England’s East Berkshire College. He later worked as a journalist before getting his certification as a PADI Divemaster, at which point he turned his attention to underwater photography.
Knight’s underwater projects have taken him to South Africa and the Maldives where he photographed sharks and other marine inhabitants. He’s an avid supporter of marine science projects and often donates his time and photography skills to charities and non-profit organizations involved in ocean sustainability.
During his crocodile expedition to Mexico, Knight says he found the perfect “sweet spot,” where the water was shallow enough to enable the crocs to stand, but deep enough for them to find prey.
Knight spent his first few days in Mexico diving without his camera in an attempt to familiarize himself with crocodile behavior. He also reached out to locals, to get as much advice as possible about how he should behave when sharing the water with these fearsome looking predators. As you can see, his research paid off with some pretty incredible images.
