What Is the Best Lighting for Portraits?: Direct Sunlight vs Backlighting vs Strobes (VIDEO)
Professional portrait photographer Anita Sadowska is back with her latest lighting tips and advice. This time she's comparing what it's like to shoot portraits in direct sunlight vs shooting backlit portraits vs shooting in an indoor studio using strobes.
In the lighting comparison test, Sadowska teams up with her photographer friend Cass Michael to capture model Alina Morozova in that trio of lighting scenarios while pointing out the pros and cons of each.
"We decided it would be fun to do a little shoot where we use this backdrop that is behind us and we're going to be doing three things," Sadowska explains. "We are going to be shooting with direct sunlight, backlit and Cass is also going to be using studio light and you guys will be able to see how all the different photos look."
Which of the three lighting conditions was the best for portraits? Well, you'll have to watch the video below to decide.
