This early piece of farm machinery dates from a time when belts and pulleys were the main transmitters of force and motion. I came across the abandoned machine while driving along a dirt road near Winters, California, hoping to find something photogenic. The original photo was taken with a Nikon D7000 and a Nikkor 70-300 mm VR lens at 70 mm. The exposure was f/8 and 1/1000 sec. Considering that there was little or no color photography during the era of this machine, the image seemed appropriate for a black and white treatment. Silver Efex Pro, along with other plugins, helped to clarify the mechanical linkages and tame the remnants of an ugly green paint job.
