Shutterbug Photo of the Day: “The Monasteries of Meteora” by Matt Stirn

Today’s Shutterbug Photo of the Day is this spectacular travel shot by Matt Stirn. Stirn captured the image in the Meteora region of Greece, which is filled with towering conglomerate spires topped by centuries-old Orthodox Monasteries.

“Only a few [monasteries] remain in use today after the majority were destroyed by bombing during World War II,” Stirm writes. “This shot was taken from the steps of the shuttle bus just as I was planning to leave. Sometimes it takes lots of prep and other times an unexpected and spectacular scene comes as a surprise. “
