In the town of Borrego Springs, located in the heart of the Anza-Borrego Desert, it's possible to find lodging ranging from luxurious resorts to more-simple abodes. This four-diamond destination resort offers rooms, suites, and casitas in a quiet, lush location that stands out like an oasis from the surrounding desert. Three pools, spas, tennis courts (with an on-staff pro), a luxurious restaurant and lounge, and banquet facilities are available.

Borrego Valley Inn
There are 14 southwestern-style rooms, two heated pools and spas at this charming oasis. Afternoon snacks and beverages, cookies at bedtime, and breakfast are served daily.

Hacienda del Sol
Located in the heart of Borrego Springs, this moderately priced motel offers a heated pool, kitchenettes, and some separate cottages.

There are two developed campgrounds in Anza-Borrego, at Borrego Palm Canyon and Tamarisk Grove. You can make reservations for each by calling Reserve America at 800/444-7275, There's also a small campground at Bow Willow. For those who want to camp with horses, an equestrian camp is located at the entrance to Coyote Canyon.

Changeable Weather
Seasonal temperatures can be extreme. Desert winters are cool and summer temperatures can reach 125°. May is usually very warm (80--90°), and layered clothing is always advised. Wear sturdy footwear, especially if you plan to hike to your photo destination. Wear a hat and use sun protection. Carry plenty of water in your vehicle and while hiking--one gallon minimum per person per day is recommended.
