Samyang Unveils a Fast 20mm F/1.8 Manual-Focus Ultra-Wide Lens for Full-Frame Digital SLRS

Samyang has continued its ambitious barrage of summer lens introductions with this morning’s unveiling of the 20mm f/1.8 ED AS UMC lens—a fast, wide-angle for full-frame DSLRs. This comes on the heels of last week’s launch of their SP 35mm f/1.2 AS UMC CS lens for mirrorless cameras.

The new 20mm f/1.8 will be available in mounts for Canon EOS, Nikon AE, Pentax K, Sony Alpha, Canon M, Fujifilm X, Samsung NX, Sony E, FT and MFT and is expected to be available next month for around $450. The lens is constructed with 13 elements in 12 groups. It utilizes two aspherical elements and three extra-low-dispersion elements for optimum resolution and light transmission while minimizing aberrations.

Featuring Samyang’s Ultra Multicoating (UMC), the new 20mm f/1.8 has a 7-bladed aperture promising nice bokeh.

Introduced at the same time is a similar cine lens, the smooth and silent Samyang 20mm T1.9 with de-clicked aperture rings.
