Nikon Intros Nikon Z7 II & Nikon Z6 II with Dual Processors, Dual Card Slots & Autofocus Upgrades

Nike announced the 45.7MP Nikon Z7 II and 24.5MP Nikon Z6 II full-frame mirrorless cameras this morning. The two new cameras, which are the follow-ups to the Z7 and Z6 from 2018, add some upgrades to the previous models including dual image processors, better autofocus (AF) capabilities and dual memory card slots, though they feature essentially the same full-frame image sensors as their predecessors.

The Nikon Z7 II, which is aimed at portrait, landscape, wedding and events photographers, goes on sale in December 2020 for $2,999, body only, and $3,599, as a one-lens kit with the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4.

The Nikon Z6 II, which is aimed at photo enthusiasts and video creators, goes on sale in November 2020 for $1,999, body-only, and $2,599, as a one-lens kit with the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4.

In addition to the new Nikon Z7 II and Z6 II, Nikon also announced the WR-R11a and WR-R11b wireless transceivers for remote triggering and radio-controlled lighting, and the MB-N11 Power Battery Pack with vertical grip for the Z6 II and Z7 II.

Nikon Z7 II & Z6 II Upgrades

• The Z7 II and Z6 II are equipped with two EXPEED 6 image processors designed to enhance processing speed and increase burst capability for stills

• Both cameras, according to Nikon, feature improved low-light AF detection, in-camera exposure choices for up to 900 seconds and dual memory card slots

• The Z6 II and Z7 II are the first Nikon cameras to support Eye-Detection AF and Animal-Detection AF with video recording

 

Nikon Z7 II Highlights

• The Nikon Z7 II is designed for capturing detailed portraits, landscapes, weddings, events and commercial photography

• Features a 45.7-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor and ISO range from 64-25,600

• Equipped with a 10 frames per second (fps) continuous shooting speed at full resolution and 3.3x the buffer capacity of the Z7

• Boasts 493 on-sensor phase-detect autofocus points to more quickly and accurately lock in on subjects, even at far edges

• The Nikon Z7 II is capable of acquiring focus in half the light as the previous model (as low as -3 EV), making it designed for low-light scenes such as weddings and indoor events

• Available in December 2020 for an SRP of $2,999.95 (body only) and $3,599.95 (one-lens kit with NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4)

 

Nikon Z6 II Highlights

• Designed as "Nikon’s most versatile Z series camera for dynamic content creators who need reliable pro-level performance"

• Features a 24.5-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor and ISO range from 100-51,200, expandable up to ISO 204,800

• Equipped with 14 fps continuous shooting speed and 3.5x the buffer capacity of the Z6

• The Nikon Z6 II’s enhanced AF system features 273 on-sensor phase-detect autofocus points for better subject acquisition and tracking throughout the frame, including at the edges

• Capable of focusing in half the light (down to -4.5 EV) as its predecessor, the Nikon Z6 II is designed to more easily acquire focus in extreme low light scenarios, making it a solid option for capturing nightscapes and events.

• Capable of recording 4K UHD video quality with full pixel readout

• Available in November 2020 for an SRP of $1,999.95 (body only) and $2,599.95 (one-lens kit with NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4)

New Accessories

Nikon's MB-N11 Battery Pack with vertical grip will be available in November 2020 for $399. The WR-R11a and WR-R11b (sold separately) will be available in December 2020, and each will sell for $199 for the controller only. They will also be available as a set including the controller and the WR-T10 wireless remote controller for an SRP of $279.
