Ice crusted Cottonwood trees in the Ahwahnee Meadow, Yosemite National Park (California).
I have visited Yosemite in the winter dozens of times but this was the only time I have ever seen this little grove of Cottonwoods decked out in ice. In Yosemite valley dawn comes late as it takes some time before the sun rays creep down the vertical walls and finally get to the valley floor. So, this "morning" shot was taken around 10:30am. We came back through this meadow around noon and all the ice was gone from these trees.
Taken with a Canon EOS 40d with an EF 24-105mm F/4.0L IS USM lens at 98mm, 1/500 sec, f/9.0 and ISO 400 on a Gitzo tripod with RRS ball head.
