Washer Woman Arch behind Mesa Arch, Canyonlands National Park, UT. Taken just after dawn the day after a dust storm. There was a Lot of dust still in the air which amplified the golden color of the sunrise sunlight. These arches are in the Island In The Sky section of Canyonlands NP which offers classic representations of the American Southwest.
At sunrise the rays of light illuminate the underside of Mesa Arch (in the foreground) which on this morning glowed brilliant red. The top of the "Mesa" of Mesa arch (where I was standing) is right behind the arch and just a bit below its apex providing wonderful photo opportunities itself. However, this shot was of Washer Woman Arch a bit farther away with just a hint of Mesa arch in the top right corner. With the sun coming through a dust left over in the air from the storm the day before amplified its rich red hue's enhanced the sense of depth in the image and provided a way to visibly see the light.
Shot with a Canon ESO 40d at 1/80sec, f/22 and ISO 400 with a Canon EF 20-105mm f/4.0L US ISM at 47mm on a Gitzo tripod with RRS ball head.
