Full Frame: The Story Behind the Image
Water Under the Old Bridge
Peda Pepic knew the shot he wanted of Stari Most (English: Old Bridge), a famous 16th-century Ottoman bridge in the city of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina but he was running out of time.
“The biggest challenge was to get on location in time to shoot it during ‘blue hour,’” he says. “The location I shot it from is really hard to find so, in the end, I only had a couple of minutes to set my gear up and take the photo.”
Pepic captured the image with a Nikon D750 and a Sigma 24mm f/1.4 Art lens on a Polaroid Carbon Fiber tripod. It’s a 15-second exposure shot at ISO 100, f/11, 24mm.

Stari Most stood for 427 years until it was destroyed on November 9, 1993, during the Croat–Bosniak War. It was then rebuilt and opened again in 2004. One of the country’s most recognizable landmarks, the bridge is considered a classic example of Balkan Islamic architecture. It was designed by Mimar Hayruddin, a student and apprentice of the famous architect Mimar Sinan.
