I found myself wondering around Fontana Lake, eventually I ended up along the Appalachian Trail at Fontana Dam. The view around the dam is spectacular. It has dramatic landscape views from every angle. The lake fluctuates with water, at certain times of the year the water level is low (As seen here) and sometimes it's up in its tree line. The Smoky's may be the most visited park in the united states, but most of all of the visitors that come to the park stay in the upper portion of the Smoky's. The backside of the Smoky's has just as much to offer. To me, some of the more beautiful spots are on the backside.
