Shutterbug reader Larry Young has managed to freeze a moment in time and transform a drop of water into an alien universe all from the comfort of his garage. So, how did he do it?

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Ok, maybe not tigers this month but the other two made the cut in some of the winning photos for this assignment. Wildlife and nature are favorite subjects for Shutterbug readers and, as expected, we reviewed a ton of amazing images from readers in these categories. The tough part was narrowing it down to just six favorites but we think we’ve picked some fabulous images to spotlight here.

The Isle of Skye in Scotland is a location that had been on photographer Andrei Duman’s “bucket list” for a long time. “It is rugged, remote, with unpredictable weather and stunning scenery,” Duman says. “The roads are few and far between and with them being very winding through the countryside, it is full of stop-starts, especially when the sheep decide to cross.”

Shutterbug reader Michel Hersen has taken several trips through the backcountry of Monument Valley in Arizona with Fred Cly, a renowned Navajo guide who knows the area like the back of his hand. In this photo taken in January 2015, Cly graciously agreed to pose for this silhouette on the lip of the Teardrop Arch.
