Spring in southeastern Michigan, near the lakes, can bring a swarm of fish flies. They coat everything. Crunch underfoot spreading their unique form of slipperiness. And they smell like fish. Many folks consider them a pest, but they truly aren't. The greater their numbers, the healthier the lakes and more food for birds and fish.
