This is a tunnel — or a tunnel-to-be. I doubt many industrial photojournalism images get submitted to Shutterbug galleries, so here's something a little different. The first line of the Amsterdam (The Netherlands) Metro under construction in 1973. Looking north along Weesperstraat. This and other photos I made illustrated magazine stories about the project that I was writing at the time. The construction method was unique, chosen to protect the city's water table. Tunnel sections were built above ground and that ground was then washed and pumped from under them so they sank into position. Camera: Pentacon Six medium format. (I still own it.) Lens: Zeiss Biometar 80mm. Film: Ektachrome. Exposure data not recorded.
