This image was taken last month, on December 9, 2017 at , Whaler's Bay, Half Moon Island, The South Shetland Islands, near Antarctica, The Southern Ocean. The boat was abandoned when the whaling station was closed early in the last century. In 1969, an eruption on the island spewed black stone chips and ash onto the island and into the boat. I used an M8 set up for B&W, by removing the UV filter it was given at birth. ( Leica 90mm, f.2.8 ISO 640, 1/350 at f.8.1) We are told that in it's last years it was probably used as an "ice boat" pulled , by hand, as a horizontal elevator, out to a block anchored well offshore, into the sea to collect clean ice (blue ice was best} for the crew at the station.
