During a recent trip to Zambia, our safari vehicle approached a small group of elephants that included a very young (possibly a newborn) calf. One of the adults of the group (the calf's mother?) decided that we were too close and she charged at us, kicking up dust, wagging her ears, and trumpeting loudly. The image is blurred because of the elephant’s rapid movement and my inability to steady the lens during our vehicle’s sudden bumpy retreat. The photo was taken with a Nikon D750 and a Nikkor 70-200 mm f/4 VR lens at 175 mm. The exposure at ISO 400 was f/8 and 1/60 sec (I had no time to reset the shutter speed, etc.). Image by Irwin H. Segel.
