Memorial Day weekend at Letchworth State Park in upstate NY includes several balloon launches. My wife and I have attended many, always for the pre-sunset launch, since balloons take off from a field over the western side of the gorge/canyon. The balloons head up and over the tree line, out beyond the proximal ridge, and head down into the gorge by the river. The ability to witness and photograph these colorful balloons from above and against the gorge background is remarkable.
