Walking in the woods near my house I noticed the leaf litter on the ground appear to move. A closer look revealed a woodcock poking his beak into the moist ground, likely hunting for worms. And of course, my camera was back at the house, nearly 200 yards away. Their rarity in my area made the sprint to the house for my equipment seem worthwhile. Returning to the spot of last sighting I found him (or her) still worm hunting with dirt on his beak. They really blend in with the leaves on the forest floor. This photo was taken in March 2015.
