I love this shot. Besides being an amazing capture, it's got wonderful light, a great reflection, and an amusing activity!

Sometimes things come together without even trying. I was photographing a colony of egrets and herons when this American coot came sprinting by. I quickly rotated my camera as the coot entered a small patch of golden water. Evidently there were folks who feed the local fowl and this coot was looking for a free (but not particularly nutritious) meal. I photographed this image with a Canon EOS 5DS, Canon EF 500mm f4L, Canon 1.4x extender, f/8, 1/2000 second, 320 ISO. I used Nik Viveza 2 to brighten the coot’s head.
