This image of the Atacama Desert was made from two primary photos: The first was the desert scene, taken on Oct. 18, 2013, at 7:39 PM, after sunset, but before the moon rose, using a Nikon D80 and a Nikkor 18-200 mm VR lens at 105 mm. The exposure was f/5.6 and 1/100 sec. The second was a photo of the “supermoon” taken in Davis, CA, on Nov. 13, 2016, at 7:01 PM with a Nikon D750 and a Nikkor 80-400 mm VR lens at 400 mm. The exposure was f/8 and 1/800 sec. The moon image was cropped, resized, and pasted into the Atacama Desert sky. The moon may be a bit oversized, but it is close to its actual position seen from that spot in the desert at about 8 PM on Oct. 18, 2013.
