I got up a 3:30 am to head out to the Appalachian Trail in the Roan Highlands. I started hiking at 5 a.m. out of Carvers Gap and made my way to Jane Bald. The Roan Highlands are known for their 360 degree views and their beautiful grassy balds. Once you make it up to the ridge line you really get a sense of how small you really are. Using a Nikkor f2.8 70-200mm I was able to capture this really compressed landscape shot of the sun rising over the Blue Ridge Mountains. I always try to look for layers when I am out shooting landscapes. I love the depth and seeing the different shades of color.
