Every spring I look forward to walking in the hills and listening for the breast thumping of the Ruffed Grouse. This photo is of a Grouse that I have photographed over several years and every year I find him standing on a dead downed tree beating his chest to let female Grouse know this is his area. Camera was a Canon 5D Mk III with the Canon 500mm f4 lens on a tripod. settings as follows. Aperture 5.6, speed 1/200 sec and ISO was 800.
