South Padre Island's infamous "road to nowhere" is actually a road...until it isn't anymore. State Park Road 100 comes to a not-so-abrupt end as you travel north. The further you travel down the road, the island's sand dunes claw at the road like massive sandy fingers, finally taking the road completely back to nature. On this particular morning, I was on assignment for the state's travel bureau. A storm was brewing, and the contrast between light and dark made for an eerie seen. Add to that a sign that says "Road Ends" and a turkey vulture circling the sky and you have quite a scary scene--even at the beach!
