This race car with a 1969 Mustang body has just gotten the green light and is on it's way to a 5.72 second 250 mph run down the measured quarter mile. Mike Smith is the driver. This run set a new track record at New England Dragway in Epping NH.

Drag racing is a very fast event, races last less than 6 seconds at speeds of 250 mph. This photo is of Mike Smith leaving the starting line driving Dana Hard's 1969 Mustang bodied funny car. Reaction times are measured in 100ths of a second and races can be won and lost in the blink of an eye. A fraction of a second too soon and you red light and loose, too slow and you loose. This car is powered by a 3000 hp supercharged V-8 engine burning nitromethane for fuel. On this particular run, Mike set the new track record at New England Dragway in Epping NH. His race only lasted 5.72 seconds with a top speed of 250 mph.
I shot this with a Nikon D-90 with a Tamron 18-270 lens and a circular polorizer filter. Shutter speed was 1/1000 sec, at F-10 and ISO of 800. Photo was post produced in Lightroom 5.
I am fairly new to SLR photography, my daughters gave me the subscription to your magazine for Christmas, I enjoy it a lot. Keep up the great work.
