While visiting Machias Seal Island recently, I was able to observe over 3,000 Atlantic Puffins in their nesting grounds. For a brief moment only, I was able to photograph two being quite intimate. It was the only time I witnessed this for the 90 minutes I spent in the tiny bird blind made available to us.
My settings were 1/2500th of a second at f5.6 and iso 500. I used a nikon d810 and a 70-200 mm f4 lens. Attached was a 1.4 tele extender so the image was shot at 280mm.
