An American Bald Eagle pulling a salmon out of an almost completely frozen river in Haines Alaska. Sat on the riverside snowbank for 5 days right after Thanksgiving in snowy weather that never warmed up past 18 degrees. It usually was closer to 3, not-so-warm, degrees fahrenheit. Eagles stop at this river that is reputed to be the last to freeze completely over in order to re-fuel on salmon as they continue their migration path to warmer climes. Shot over 7,000 images during that five day period of eagles fishing and fighting. Hand-held Nikon D4, 80-400 at 170mm, iso 2000, f7.1, 1/1600, +0.3 EV and shutter priority.
