My wife, Debbie and I love hummingbirds. One day, we saw them taunting a praying mantis. We watched and photographed them for a couple of hours. When we went inside, we noticed an article in a magazine that told about how praying mantises prey on hummingbirds. They grab then with those strong arms and crush their chest, then eat them. We had no idea. So, we went back out and thumped the mantis off the feeder. (We did not hurt him.
But, from then on, we didn't all mantises on our feeders.
