A 900 mile trek in the dead of winter with a couple of photographer friends paid off with shots like this one of the Great Gray Owl. We drove for what seems like forever from Central Ohio to Sax Zim Bog in Northern Minnesota with this bird in mind. Snow, slick roads, and frigid temperatures were a small price to pay to see and photograph this majestic owl. The muted tones of the feathers are offset by the piercing yellow eyes. When this owl is staring you down, you know it.
